Although I didn’t remember that I did this, I covered Chiron house placements from a different source — Parker’s Astrology — on my September 18 and September 21 posts. These interpretations are lengthy and more than make up for the Round Art and Mapping Your Travels interpretations that exist for every other major planet.
Chiron has a highly elliptical orbit that is 50 years long. It spends roughly 9 years in Aries, but roughly 2 years each in Virgo, Libra and Scorpio. Those of us in our 40s and early 50s have Aries in common among most of us. (Our Chiron return, which happens at around 50, can be a very difficult time.)
This will be the final post on astrological lines that Time Passages and Dan Furst’s “Finding Your Best Places”. Here’s the standard explanation and disclaimer:
- The ascending line is the location on the earth where the planet is rising. (As a corollary, the ascendant is the point on the horizon — northeast, southeast, or anywhere in between — where the sun would be rising at the time of birth). A planetary ascending line is the planet on the cusp of the first house.
- The descending line is the location on the earth where the planet is setting. (The descendant is the point on the horizon — northwest, southwest, or anywhere in between — where the Sun would be setting at the time of birth). A planetary descending line is the planet on the cusp of the 7th house.
- The MC lines are where a planet would be at its highest point of the day in the sky, or essentially on the prime meridiem. They will be directly south above the Tropic of Cancer, directly north below the Tropic of Capricorn, or overhead (the possibility for being overhead only exists between the tropics). A planetary midheaven line is the planet on the cusp of the 10th house.
- The IC lines are where a planet would be at its lowest point of the day underneath the earth. A planetary IC line is the planet on the cusp of the 4th house.
It should be emphasized again, that you should spend some time on or near a line before taking the plunge, picking up, and starting over. As would also be true for analyzing a planet in a house at a new location.
Besides using the Time Passages interpretation, I’ll be using Dan Furst’s “Finding Your Best Places: Using Astrocartography to Navigate Your Life”. This is a very recent book and I like his interpretations.
Here’s an Astro Map of the whole earth for a recent client:
The Chiron lines are a dark blue line, and, as you may well know, the symbol for the Chiron looks like a key; so, you’ll see the MC line for Chiron at the top of the screen:
Here’s the Time Passages interpretation for Chiron on the Midheaven:
Chiron on the Midheaven indicates that wounds to your sense of authority or trauma that came at the hands of important authority figures from your past could arise in this location for healing and transformation. People or events that you encounter here could stimulate you to recreate ancient patterns. You may at first undergo a period of disillusionment and difficult realizations, but as you begin to accept yourself more fully and to heal, the very issues that held you back can become a profound source of experience and wisdom. You may find that in this part of the world you embody the archetype of the Wounded Healer – the Chiron archetype – in a publicly recognized way. Careers in any of the healing arts are likely to bring success. The inner journey you undergo may actually inspire you to shuck off outmoded tradition and develop your own values, which could eventually gain you recognition. Here, you have an opportunity to transform wound into wisdom, to enter the outer world with your whole truth and to fully shine your light to others.
Here’s Dan Furst’s take:
Chiron on the MC lines point to professional activity, success and recogntion as alternative health practitioners, and to our wounds concerning our professional path, spiritual direction and sense of connection with the universal energy field. Such lines may also be present in places where we have a strong sense of what we ought to be doing .. but are not doing.
Moving along to the Chiron Ascending line, we see:
Time Passages’ interpretation of Chiron on the Ascendant goes as follows:
Chiron on the Ascendant indicates that time spent in this location provides you with a golden opportunity to work on healing your vital force and your deepest sense of self. You may feel a bit haunted as you travel through this part of the world because disturbing insights and painful memories could arise. This place in some way stimulates deeper issues and wounds of yours that have resulted from painful experiences as far back as early childhood. You might find that here you have no choice but to look your fears and failure-based patterns straight in the face. You might also be able to summon up a great deal of sympathy for others that you encounter that have experienced similar trauma in their own lives. You could discover that this locale provides you with unexpected resources that can help you to accept your flaws and exchange the painful feelings arising from the past into a profound and experience-based wisdom. Your voyage within then becomes a healing journey for yourself and for the outer world also, as you help others around you to likewise heal.
Here’s what Dan Furst has to say about Chrion on the Ascendant:
Chiron on the Ascendant often applies in places where we are seeking to establish ourselves as health practitioners, or are seeking in other ways to gain the courage and assertiveness to project ourselves more confidently into the “outer” world and tell the planet who we are. Issues of worthiness and deserving, or of being in retreat from the inhibiting effect of one’s own shadow, often apply here.
Here’s the map indicating Chiron on the nadir (IC):
Time Passages has it as follows:
Chiron on the Nadir indicates that in this location your deepest feelings regarding yourself may alter, causing you to undergo a potentially painful period of re-examination, transformation and eventual healing. Old trauma, perhaps buried away behind walls of shame since early childhood, could be stimulated by situations or people that you encounter here. These issues may have been up to now a source of painful feelings without any concrete understanding of how they arise, so that greater recognition can be hugely beneficial. You could find that this place becomes a central focus for psychological, educational and spiritual quests. You could also find that much of your healing work in this locale centers around home and family. Retreats and forms of contemplation could be appealing, and could help heal your relationship to your parents, your family, or your roots. As you confront these psychic wounds and begin working through them, you discover more about your own essence and spiritual purpose. This tends to bring out the healer in you and you may find that over time, you become a better source of trust, peace and nurturing for those around you.
Dan Furst’s take:
Chiron on the Nadir can mark a place where we come to terms with our struggles to support ourselves on the Earth plane, whether as health practitioners or in other livelihoods. This line can also be present in places where we address inherited and self-imposed limits of scarcity mind, or assist others in their efforts to dissolve their own poverty consciousness.
Finally, here’s Chiron on the Descendant:
Here’s Chiron on the Descendant, per Time Passages:
Chiron on the Descendant indicates that in this locale you could experience powerful healing through partnership with others. You also may be forced to encounter in some way your own deeper issues involving relationship. If you have any interest in the healing arts, time spent in this area will surely deepen your practice. You may enter into important relationship here with people that catalyze connection with your own healing modalities. In this region, the wounds and blocks that have kept you from connecting more deeply could come up and undergo transformation. You could make strong contact with your “shadow side” in these parts, either through events that bring these parts to light, or by attracting important people who reflect back to you these difficult-to-see places within yourself. Experiences here may help you get in touch with a profound sense of inner loneliness that you might have been largely unconscious of up to now, as well as the means for healing this issue. Eventually, through your own healing journey, you may also be enabled to help others who are on a similar path.
Dan Furst has it as follows:
Chiron on the Descendant is relevant to the work of medicinal teams and projects, our own wounds of love, sex, intimacy and partnership, and the wways in which we may retreat from the challenges of professional teamwork and the rough, sometimes competitive pressures of creative and marital collaboration.
After you read this, you should have a pretty good idea of what Chiron is about, whether or not you end up on a Chiron line. Chiron is a planet that has us deal with our wounds in whatever capacity the theme is, so the different houses Chiron can be in also have telling interpretations.
